VeCo professors Sven Van Kerckhoven (Head of the Business & Economics Department) and Professor Koops (Professor of International Affairs and outgoing Dean of Vesalius College) have both been awarded the prestigious “Rutherford Strategic International Fellowship”.
Funded by the UK’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy “to attract highly skilled researchers and the best and brightest minds” for fostering international cooperation between UK and European universities. Both professors received the fellowship to work with colleagues at the University of Warwick’s Department of Political Studies (PAIS) and to strengthen cooperation between Vesalius College, the VUB and Warwick University.
Out of the three fellowships allocated to the entire VUB, two were won by Vesalius College colleagues, underlining the growing strength of VeCo as an interdisciplinary research-based teaching institution of international standing.
Professor Van Kerckhoven will work with economics and political scientists on topics of Global Economic Governance while Professor Koops worked with Warwick colleagues on interdisciplinary approaches to Global Security Governance. Professors Van Kerckhoven and Koops will also work during their fellowships on laying the groundwork for a joint Brussels Institute for European and Global Affairs, bringing together Vesalius College, the Institute for European Studies and Warwick’s PAIS.
