Prof. Dr. Joachim Koops has been invited to brief the Members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament on 8 March 2012 on the ‘Responsibility to Protect’, particularly in the context of recent events in Syria. Prof. Koops has been asked to provide criteria and conditions for establishing a  ‘just and valid case’ for possible European Union intervention to stop crimes against humanity. He will join  MEPs and, inter alia, Professor Jennifer Welsh (Oxford University) to  outline actionable advice for European responses to the unfolding acts of violence in the Middle East.
