Vesalius College is pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Peter McKiernan has joined Vesalius College in the Fall Semester as Distinguished Professor of Management in the Department of Business.
Prof. Dr. McKiernan is an internationally renowned expert on Management, Strategy and Marketing. He had an extensive career as an academic and practitioner. Currently, he operates as a part time professor at Strathclyde, and he holds the APS Bank Chair in Strategy at the University of Malta and an Adjunct Professorship at the University of Notre Dame, Australia. In addition, he is the recipient of research fellowships of the Asian Research Centre at Murdoch University, Australia and the Centre for Leadership Innovation and Creativity at HHL (Leipzig).
Before joining VeCo, Prof. Dr. McKiernan has held Professorial positions at Strathclyde Business School and the Universities of Warwick, St Andrews, Malta and Murdoch. Across these institutions, he held the positions of Dean, Head of School, Head of Group and Chair of Department.
The main research focus of Prof. Dr. McKiernan is on how organisations learn about how their future might unfold and how they might prepare their current strategies to cope. Over the years, his research output has covered organisational turnaround, fast growing SMEs, sector studies and public policy. This research has appeared in top journals in the US and in Europe and has won several journal and conference prizes.

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. McKiernan has authored, co-authored or edited eight books, including the best seller Sharpbenders and Strategies of Growth, Inside Fortress Europe, Inside the Omani Corporate Culture, Strategic Leadership: Governance and Renewal and Hidden Champions in Central and Eastern Europe and Turkey.
He has worked with a range of blue chip organisations around the world in strategy and marketing such as IBM, Philips, Jardine Matheson, Siemens-GPT and Marks and Spencer. Additionally, he has held many Board positions in the private and public sectors and chaired those of major public bodies. He has directed a host of scenario planning projects on four continents for governments, cities, regions, and organisations in the private, public and third sectors.
PRESIDENCY, FELLOWSHIPS & HONOURS
Prof. Dr. McKiernan has been President of the British Academy of Management (BAM) and of the European Academy of Management (EURAM). In addition, he holds Fellowships of the BAM, the EURAM, the Governance Institute of Australia, the Academy of Social Sciences, the Royal Society of Arts and the Chartered Management Institute, among others. He is an inaugural Companion of the Association of Business Schools (UK) and a past winner of the CEEMAN “Institutional Champion of the Year” prize. In 2015, the BAM honoured him with their ‘Richard Whipp Life Time Achievement Award’.
