Application Procedures

Applying to Partner Schools

  • Vesalius students are qualified to study abroad if they are in the second semester of their second year or if they are in the first semester of their third year of a three-year Programme.  Minimum GPA for eligibility is 2.7/4.0 (3.0/4.0 for Kansai Gaidai).

  • You should start thinking about Study Abroad in the beginning of the semester that precedes the semester during which you would like to go abroad.Application deadlines for the Summer or Fall semesters are generally in February or March of the preceding semester; application deadlines for the Spring semester are generally in October or November of the preceding semester. Remember that you will need to obtain a student Visa prior to your departure (not usually needed for Summer School, however).  This procedure can take from 6-8 weeks, so you must get your application submitted in plenty of time before your departure date!

  • Review our list of partner institutions.  Check their websites and get a preliminary idea of which destinations and Programmes would be of interest to you.

  • If you have questions regarding which Programme are available to Vesalius students or questions about the universities or they type of agreement we have with them, please consult with the Study Abroad office.  Click on the following link for Study Abroad Office contact information.

  • Select a list of courses that appeals to you, obtain course syllabi from the host institution for all courses that interest you and then make an appointment with your Academic Advisor and with the Registrar to be sure that those courses will count towards your degree and that you have fulfilled the pre-requisites for those courses.  In some cases, it may be necessary to contact the Study Abroad Office so that we can help you obtain syllabi of selected courses for review by your advisor.

  • Visit the Study Abroad office so that we can help you with application forms and procedures and so that we can advise you on Student Visa application procedures.  Once your paperwork is in order, we will mail all appropriate documentation to the partner school to secure your application.  From then on, the Study Abroad office will be responsible for communicating with the partner school on your behalf.

  • The course hours you complete at the partner institution will automatically be recorded on your Vesalius transcript and the grade you earn will be calculated as part of your cumulative Vesalius GPA.

Applying to Non-Partner Schools

  • For application to non-partner schools, points 1-5 above apply (see “Application to Partner Schools”).

  • In the case of application to a non-partner school, you are responsible for obtaining, completing and submitting all documentation on your own.  The Vesalius Study Abroad Office will not act as your official contact with the partner school in this case.  You will be responsible for all communication with the host institution.  The Study Abroad Office will, however, be happy to help you with any questions or problems you may have.

  • In order for the credit hours earned at the non-partner institution to be transferred to your Vesalius transcript, you must earn a letter grade of “C” or above for the course. The grade earned for the course will not be averaged into your cumulative GPA no matter what the grade.
