Charlotte McDonald-Gibson Presents her New Book ‘Cast Away’ at VeCo

On Monday, 24th April, Charlotte McDonald-Gibson, author of ‘Cast Away: Stories of Survival from Europe’s Refugee Crisis’ has visited VeCo for a presentation and panel discussion about her book.

During the two hours of the event, Charlotte explained her motivations to write ‘Cast Away’ and shared her experiences, challenges, and difficulties along the writing process. After the introduction, the panel discussion brought interesting questions concerning the current situation of the refugees and how Europe is managing this challenge. The dynamic and participative event brought together around 20 students and visitors.

The presentation and panel discussion was followed by a light reception with drinks and snacks where students had the chance to get to know the author and her work better.

ABOUT THE BOOK AND AUTHOR

Charlotte McDonald-Gibson is a Brussels-based journalist covering the EU and general European news for The Independent, TIME, Monocle magazine and other. In Cast Away: Stories of Survival from Europe’s Refugee Crisis,  she reports the first-person survivor testimonies of five refugees who reached Europe’s shore since 2011.
